Currently experimenting using low cost, heavy duty 100L storage bin that can be slid in/out for combost toilet bin swaps. Reducing ground clearance or pit depth needed. Multiple bins can be cheaply setup and stored away for extended periods when full. Better suited for low use toilets or holiday homes visited infrequently.
Prototype 1
100L box from Bunnings
- Box Lid with hole for chute, drops from chute and closes tightly on box. Sealing the box Lid. However the chute is not an ideal air tight fit.
- Difficulty removing the lid and box as the chute protrudes in and stops the box from easily sliding and lifting out. May need to build a larger collar.
- Positioning the box is tricky in terms of elevated height and chute connection.
- Box must be tilted to drain liquids out and encourage humanure to gravity tumble down a slope. However this reduces potential holding capacity
